Commemoration of CDR Oliver Hazard Perry's Victory in the Battle of Lake Erie
August 28
This was a special year in Cleveland with the U. S. Navy, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Royal Canadian Navy and the U.S. Flagship Brig Niagara visiting the Port of Cleveland. The U.S. Navy was in our city August 27th to September 4th to celebrate Cleveland Navy Week, the War of 1812 and our Star Spangled Banner.

The Battle of Lake Erie, decisive turning point in the War of 1812, was fought September 10, 1813. On Tuesday, August 28, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to noon, the U.S. Navy joined the Early Settlers Association of the Western Reserve, the Order of Founders and Patriots of America and The National Society of the Sons and Daughters of Pilgrims at the Perry Statue in Fort Huntington Park (West 3rd and Lakeside) in our annual remembrance of this historic maritime victory. The program included posting of the colors by the U.S. Navy and the Archibald Willard Color Guard of the WRSSAR, wreath laying at the Perry Statue and remarks by a U.S. Navy Admiral. The Navy provided a brass quintet public concert.
